Business Wi-Fi Management

Wi-Fi That's Secure, Separate and Looked After

We manage your business Wi-Fi: monitoring and updating access points, keeping staff and guest networks apart and making changes as your office evolves.

What is Business Wi-Fi Management?

Business Wi-Fi is usually provided by access points: small devices on the ceiling or wall that broadcast wireless networks across your office. Staff laptops and phones, visitors, printers and smart devices may all connect to them.

Business Wi-Fi Management is ongoing care for those access points. We monitor them, apply firmware updates, keep separate networks for staff and guests, review your Wi-Fi security settings and handle changes as your office changes.

The aim is Wi-Fi your team can rely on, with visitors kept away from business systems. Wired switches and routers are covered by Managed Network Infrastructure.

Key benefits

  • Staff and guest Wi-Fi kept separate
  • Access points monitored and kept up to date
  • Wi-Fi security settings reviewed against good practice
  • Changes made for you as the office changes
  • Coverage problems investigated and options explained

How does it work?

We take on your existing access points where they can be centrally managed, set them up properly, then look after them month by month.

  1. Review your Wi-Fi

We identify your access points and how they're managed, which wireless networks they broadcast and how staff and guests connect, and we check firmware and security settings.

  2. Separate and secure

We set up distinct staff and guest networks, apply current encryption settings and remove old or unused networks.

  3. Monitor and update

Access points are monitored, alerts are reviewed by our team in line with your agreed service level, and firmware updates are applied in planned windows.

  4. Adjust as you grow

New networks, password changes and new or relocated access points are handled through a controlled change process.

Guest Wi-FiVisitors' laptops and phones
  • AllowedInternetVisitors can browse and use web services
  • BlockedBusiness systemsServers, file shares and printers stay out of reach
  • BlockedStaff networkCompany laptops and phones are on a separate network
What guest Wi-Fi can and can't reach. A device on the guest Wi-Fi is allowed to reach the internet, but is blocked from business systems such as servers, file shares and printers, and from company devices on the staff network. The separation is enforced by your access points, switches and firewall.

Technical scope

  • Monitoring of centrally managed access points
  • Firmware updates for supported access points
  • Separate staff and guest wireless networks (each with its own network name, or SSID)
  • WPA2 or WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption, depending on your equipment and devices
  • Guest network kept apart from business systems, using your access points, switches and firewall
  • Review of Wi-Fi security settings, passwords and unused networks
  • Controlled changes to networks, passwords and access point settings

Where it helps

Visitors in reception

Clients and contractors get internet access on the guest network without any route to your files, printers or company laptops.

A Wi-Fi password everyone knows

If former staff and past visitors still know the password, it's time to change it and split staff and guest access properly.

A dead spot in the meeting room

We investigate coverage complaints using the information from your access points and explain the options, from adjusting settings to adding an access point.

Smart TVs and other gadgets

Devices like screens and smart speakers don't need to sit on the staff network. Separate networks for them can be scoped through Secure Your Network.

Problems solved

Guests on the business network

A visitor's infected laptop on the same network as your systems is an avoidable risk. A separate guest network keeps them apart.

A shared password that rarely changes

Wi-Fi passwords spread quickly and rarely get changed. We review them and make changes through a controlled process.

Out-of-date access points

Access points need firmware updates like any other device. Managed updates close known weaknesses.

Patchy coverage

Dead spots and dropped connections frustrate staff. We investigate complaints and recommend practical fixes.

Nobody to look after the Wi-Fi

In many offices nobody owns the Wi-Fi until it fails. Ongoing management gives it an owner.

What's included

Included as standard

  • Access point monitoring and updates
  • Separate staff and guest Wi-Fi
  • Wi-Fi security settings reviewed
  • Controlled changes
  • Investigation of coverage and connection problems, with recommendations

Optional or scoped

Available on request and confirmed in your proposal; not part of the standard service.

  • A Wi-Fi site survey to map coverage and plan access point positions, scoped separately
  • New or additional access points, supplied and installed as a project
  • Individual staff sign-in to Wi-Fi instead of a shared password, where your equipment supports it
  • Separate networks for phones, CCTV or smart devices through Secure Your Network
  • A guest Wi-Fi login page (captive portal), where your equipment supports it

What's not included

  • Wi-Fi hardware and licences, unless agreed in your proposal
  • Cabling and installation of new access points, which are scoped as a project
  • Wi-Fi built into internet provider routers, which usually can't be centrally managed
  • Switches and firewalls, which are covered by their own managed services
  • Problems with visitors' own devices

Some access points, including the Wi-Fi built into many internet provider routers, can't be monitored or updated centrally. If replacement is the better option, we'll explain why.

Wi-Fi coverage depends on your building's layout, its materials and interference from neighbouring networks. Monitoring can highlight problems, but some need a site survey or extra access points to resolve.

Who it's suitable for

  • Offices that welcome visitors, clients or contractors
  • Businesses where staff rely on Wi-Fi rather than wired connections
  • Multi-floor or multi-site offices with several access points
  • Hospitality, healthcare and retail premises offering guest Wi-Fi
  • Organisations where the Wi-Fi password hasn't changed in years

Frequently asked questions

Why should guest Wi-Fi be separate?

A visitor's laptop or phone could be infected, or its owner simply curious. A separate guest network gives them internet access without a route to your files, printers or company devices.

Can you manage the Wi-Fi from our broadband router?

Usually not well. Wi-Fi built into internet provider routers often can't be monitored or updated centrally. For managed Wi-Fi we normally recommend business-grade access points that can be managed centrally.

Do you carry out Wi-Fi site surveys?

A site survey is available as an optional, separately scoped extra. It maps coverage across your building and helps plan where access points should go, which is useful before an office move or when coverage problems persist.

Will we need new access points?

Not if your current ones are business-grade, still supported and centrally manageable. If they aren't, we explain the options, and any hardware is quoted separately.

What happens to Wi-Fi access when someone leaves?

With a shared staff password, changing it after someone leaves is good practice, and we can make that change for you. Where your equipment supports individual staff sign-in, access ends when the person's account is disabled.
